Can a Criminal Record Prevent You From Being a Licensed Real Estate Agent in Nevada?

Wondering how to become a real estate agent in Nevada? Key Realty School of Las Vegas has you covered with the most up-to-date coursework and accurate educational materials, as well as knowledgeable and experienced instructors. Becoming a real estate agent doesn’t have to be time-consuming, however, there are a few requirements to make note of. First off, applicants must be at least 18 years old, and you will have to submit fingerprints for a criminal background check. So, yes, a criminal record may prevent you from becoming a licensed real estate agent in Nevada. However, not every criminal offense can keep you from obtaining your real estate license.

You will be denied from obtaining your real estate license, or you may have an existing license revoked if you commit one of the following crimes:

  • Forgery
  • Embezzlement
  • Obtaining money under fraudulent pretenses
  • Larceny
  • Extortion
  • Conspiracy to defraud
  • Engaging in real property business without a license
  • Possessing controlled substances for the purpose of sale
  • Crimes of violence
  • Crimes of theft

If a crime has been sealed or expunged, there is a bit of a gray area in terms of what may happen during a criminal background check. We encourage you to consult with an attorney before submitting paperwork to understand what options would be best for you.
