Real Estate Agent Tips for Selling a Home in the Winter (Part 2)

Selling a home during the winter season is not impossible, particularly if you follow some best practice, real estate agent tips for staging a home. After all, a lot of potential home buyers are typically more motivated during this time than any other. This is sometimes because of a job relocation, or could be for some other major-life-event type matter. Fortunately, preparation for showings is important and can make all the difference in the prospective buyer’s mind. Here are a few more tips on how to prepare the home for showings during the winter months:

Real Estate Agent Tip #1 – Evoke a Sense of Summer

Fresh flowers in a vase bring bright and pleasant feelings reminiscent of summertime. Painted flowers or flower photography can also achieve the same effect if placed in good taste and not overdone. Take advantage of natural daylight by opening curtains and letting the room glow. Or, on especially gloomy days, make sure that interior lighting can help simulate the same cheery feeling. Remember, the “warmer” you can make the space feel, the easier it will be for the potential home buyer to envision themselves within the space.

Real Estate Agent Tip #2 – Bake Cookies

Sometimes scents and fragrances can be overwhelming. However, baking cookies always make prospective buyers feel more comfortable and welcomed into the home. The smell of freshly baked cookies is a great way to bring about a sense of warmth and other pleasant feelings, especially during the colder months. This can also be done with hot beverages such as hot cocoa, coffee, and hot apple cider. Whatever you do though, just be sure to not burn the cookies!

Real Estate Agent Tip #3 – Rid the Home of Dust and Cobwebs

Deep cleaning is necessary for any home staging event, but this will help even more during colder months when homes can get especially stuffy. Make sure the home is deep cleaned so no dust affects prospective home buyers. The last thing you want is for a prospective buyer to be discouraged by an unclean space. Remember, you want to stage the space so that it’s easy for potential buyers to seem themselves in the home, and nothing can be more unwelcoming than dust, cobwebs, and grime getting in the way of their new home purchase vision.
